Chesebro’, Jertson, Lengerich & 2004-05 WBB team to be inducted into 2011 class of CSM Athletics Hall of Fame

GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado School of Mines will induct two former student-athletes, one outstanding supporter and one team into the 16th annual class of its Athletics Hall of Fame this fall, as announced today by Director of Athletics Tom Spicer.

Former Oredigger student-athletes who will be inducted include Marty Jertson (golf) and Ben Lengerich (track & field).  Outstanding supporter Stephen D. Chesebro’ and the 2004-05 CSM women’s basketball team will be inducted, as well.

MARTY JERTSON
* Four-year letterwinner in men's golf at CSM (1998-99 to 2001-02)
* Graduated from CSM in 2002
* Three-time All-RMAC selection (freshman - 1998-99, junior - 2000-01, senior - 2001-02)
* Finished 2nd at the RMAC Championships as a junior in 2000-01
* Two-time selection as the RMAC Men's Golfer of the Week as a senior in 2001-02
* Compiled the RMAC's best 18-hole score (tied-66) as a senior in 2001-02
* Compiled the RMAC's best 36-hole score (135) as a senior in 2001-02
* Compiled the RMAC's best 54-hole score (204) as a senior in 2001-02
* Earned Medalist honors (first place) at five different events as a senior in 2001-02
* Placed 3rd at the NCAA Division II Northwest Regional as a senior in 2001-02
* A Byron Nelson Award semifinalist (NCAA award for athletic & academic excellence) as a senior in 2001-02
* Garnered Academic All-American honors as a senior in 2001-02
* Finished 3rd at the RMAC Championships as a senior in 2001-02
* Won the RMAC low-stroke-average award (72.35) as a senior in 2001-02
* Three-time Academic All-RMAC selection (SO - 1999-00, JR - 2000-01, SR - 2001-02)
* Garnered Honorable Mention NCAA Division II All-American honors as a senior in 2001-02
* CSM's Male RMAC Honor Student-Athlete as a senior (2001-02)

BEN LENGERICH
* Four-year letterwinner in track & field (1999-02)
* Graduated from CSM in 2002
* An eight-time All-American at CSM
* All-American honors: INDOOR --- 2001 (4x400m relay, 800m); 2002 (4x400m relay, 800m)
* All-American honors: OUTDOOR --- 2000 (4x400m relay); 2001 (4x400m relay, 800m); 2002 (800m)
* Holds the Steinhauer Fieldhouse record in the 400m dash (48.68 - 2002)
* Holds the CSM indoor school record in the 400m dash (48.68 - 2002)
* Member of the CSM indoor 4x400m relay school-record team (3:13.83 - 2001)
* Member of the CSM indoor mile relay school-record team (3:15.58 - 2001)
* Member of the CSM outdoor 4x400m relay school-record team (3:10.47 - 2001)
* Won the 400m dash and the 800m run at the 2002 RMAC Indoor Championships
* Member of CSM’s first-place 4x400m relay team at the 2002 RMAC Indoor Championships

STEPHEN D. CHESEBRO’
* Longtime benefactor of CSM Athletics
* Three-year letterwinner in football (1960-62)
* Four-year letterwinner in baseball (1961-64)
* Two-time All-Conference selection in baseball (1963 & 1964)
* Competed on the golf team his senior year (1963-64)
* Coached the CSM freshman football team in 1963
* Member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity
* Society of Petroleum Engineers
* Graduated from CSM in 1964 (Petroleum Engineering)
* Honorary Doctorate of Engineering in 1998
* CSM Distinguished Achievement Medal (1991)
* Chesebro’ and wife, Dollie, have been President’s Council members since 1988
* Stephen and Dollie are members of the Mines Century Society – Gold Level
* Stephen and Dollie established the Chesebro’ Endowed Chair in Petroleum Engineering

2004-05 CSM WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM
* 19-9 overall (13-6 RMAC)
* PLAYERS:  Lindsay Orchard, Kim Kilmer, Emily Przekwas, Kristin Horkey, Heather Hoops, Liz Jeffries, Shannon Griep, Gina Cornelio, Ashley Gronewoller, Angela Pearson and Peanut Eickelman

* CSM established a single-season program record for overall victories (19)
* Mines established a single-season program record for conference victories (13; since broken)
* Attained first-ever regional ranking (7th in North Central Region poll) in program history
* Qualified as the #5 seed in the RMAC Shootout
* Had best start (12-3 in first 15 games) in program history
* Defeated two Top 25 teams (53-45 over #24 Regis Univ.; 63-50 over #18 Minnesota-Duluth)
* Ranked among national statistical leaders in scoring defense, FG% defense, rebounding margin and win-loss %
* Cornelio, Hoops, Horkey, Gronewoller and Pearson named Academic All-RMAC
* Gronewoller was a one-time RMAC East Division Player of the Week selection
* Gronewoller was named First Team All-RMAC East Division
* Gronewoller was ranked first in the RMAC in FG% (.583; 144-of-247) and third in blocks per game (1.61)
* Gronewoller earned Pre-Season All-RMAC and Pre-Season First Team All-East Division recognition
* Horkey was a two-time RMAC East Division Player of the Week selection

The 16th annual CSM Athletics Hall of Fame banquet will take place on Saturday evening, October 1st, 2011, at the Ben Parker Student Center on the CSM campus.  A reception at 6:00 p.m. will precede the banquet, which will begin at 7:00 p.m.  The 2011 CSM Athletics Hall of Fame inductees will also be recognized during a halftime ceremony at the Orediggers’ Homecoming / Hall of Fame football game against Fort Lewis College earlier that afternoon (game begins at 12:00 p.m. at Campbell Field).

Additionally, the annual Golden Chamber of Commerce / CSM Silver & Blue Homecoming Luncheon will be held on Friday, September 30th, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Friedhoff Hall in the Green Center on the CSM campus.  The guest speaker for the Golden Chamber of Commerce / CSM Silver & Blue Homecoming Luncheon will be current PGA pro, PING senior design engineer and 2011 CSM Athletics Hall of Fame inductee Marty Jertson.
