Mines baseball splits twinbill with Augustana (S.D.) College
GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado School of Mines split an NCAA Division II baseball doubleheader with Augustana (S.D.) College on Sunday afternoon, February 20th, at Darden Field. The Orediggers posted a 13-7 victory in the opener before the Vikings won by a score of 17-10 in game two.
Mines trailed by three runs after six-and-a-half innings of play in game one, but the Orediggers scored nine runs in the seventh and never looked back. Kyle Wallace went 3-for-5 with a HR (1), two runs scored and four RBI while starting pitcher Mike Fuller (7.0 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 6 K) earned the victory to improve his record to 1-1. Elliott Riege went 4-for-5 with a HR (2) and two runs scored and Matthew Pullos (2-for-3, 2B) drove in two runs. Tyler Phan Thornton (2-for-4, SB) scored three runs and Jarred Wallace (2B, two runs scored, RBI) went 3-for-4. Augustana reliever Grant Larson (now 0-1) suffered the loss in relief of Deryk Marks (6.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K; no decision). The Vikings (3-1 overall) trailed 7-5 after three innings in the series finale, but Augustana tied the game with two runs in the fourth, and went ahead for good with a ten-run fifth inning. Heithoff (2-for-4, 2B) and Nate Baumann (4-for-5, two 2B, SB) drove in four runs apiece as reliever Casey Jacobson (now 1-0) got the win. Marks had three RBI and Gates Cook (2-for-2, RBI) scored three runs. Kyle Wallace went 4-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and five RBI for the Orediggers. Thornton (1-for-3, two runs scored) drove in two while reliever Eric Shannon fell to 0-1. GAME TWO BOX SCORE
The Orediggers (2-6 overall) are scheduled to begin the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) portion of their schedule with a four-game series at Colorado State University – Pueblo on Friday – Sunday, March 4th – 6th, at Rawlings Field.
