Mines Falls To Metro State In Game One
GOLDEN – A day after registering season highs in runs and hits, the Colorado School of Mines baseball team saw the tables turn on them in falling to visiting Metro State by a 15-5 final in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader at Jim Darden Field in Golden.
Mines (14-24, 13-21 RMAC) looked to have picked up right where it left off from the night before after opening the game with four runs in the bottom of the first inning.
The Orediggers used three hits and a Metro State (12-28, 9-25 RMAC) error to plate the four runs but the bats fell cold after the opening inning, and Mines was not able to score another run until the home half of the seventh.
Metro State scored in five of the seven innings, including a five-run fifth and a four-run seventh.
Kyle Wallace led the offense with two RBI on 2-for-3 hitting while also scoring a run and Garrett Schirmacher posted two doubles on a 2-for-4 day at the dish. Bobby Egeberg scored two runs out of the leadoff spot on 2-for-3 batting and Matthew Pullos knocked in a run on a 1-for-2 hitting line.
