Egeberg Earns National Gold Glove Award

WAYNE, Neb. – After earning just the third All-Amercan honor in the history of the Mines baseball program on Monday, junior outfielder Bobby Egeberg became the first player in the history of the program to earn a national gold glove honor when he was named to the Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association 2012 NCAA Division II Gold Glove Team during the squad's announcement on Tuesday morning.

One of three outfielders and nine players in all of NCAA Division II baseball to earn the award, the Goodyear, Ariz., native finished his season with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage on 92 total chances defensively. He used his strong throwing arm to record nine assists, which was the most by any player in the entire Central Region that only played in the outfield. One of the fastest players in the conference and the entire Central Region, Egeberg made several diving catches, took away hits to the gap and patrolled centerfield better than nearly every player at his position in the country.

A NCBWA Honorable Mention All-American and First Team All-RMAC selection, Egeberg played in 43 games for the Orediggers with 41 starts to his credit. He posted a .392 batting average en route to being named Second Team All-Region and First Team All-Region Gold Glove by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). A 2012 First Team NCBWA All-Region performer as well, Egeberg finished eighth in the RMAC in batting average, tied for second in the conference in triples (five), finished second in stolen bases (17) and finished ninth in slugging percentage (.569). Primarily a leadoff hitter for the Orediggers, Egeberg led the team in home runs (three), total bases (87), runs scored (42), on-base percentage (.569) in addition to leading the team in triples, stolen bases and slugging percentage.

He ended the season on a 12-game hitting streak and led the team with 20 multi-hit games during the season. He hit .467 against left-handed pitchers and .387 against righties while also hitting .436 with two outs, .455 with runners in scoring position and .813 with runners on third base and less than two outs. He also hit .715 with the bases loaded .533 as the leadoff batter.
