No. 4 'Diggers Paint The Boards In 77-57 Win Over FLC
GOLDEN – Colorado Mines battled through a 46.0 percent shooting night from the floor as a squad to post a 77-57 win over Fort Lewis on Friday evening at Lockridge Arena in Golden.
With the win, the Orediggers (21-2, 17-2 RMAC) can now clinch the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular season title for the second time in as many years with a victory against Adams State on Saturday. CSM used a 42-to-30 advantage on points in the paint as well as a hefty 45-to-22 rebounding margin to control near the basket in both facets of the game.
The lead changed hands on 13 occasions, with each time occurring in the first half. The Orediggers headed into the break behind a 16-6 run through the last 6:49 of the first half, putting them up 38-27.
CSM increased its offensive efficiency in the second half by going 15-of-29 from the floor and 6-of-12 from 3-poiont range to put the Skyhawks (12-11, 10-9 RMAC) away down the stretch.
Senior Dale Minschwaner led four Orediggers in double figures with 15 points and 11 rebounds – good for his fourth double-double of the season and 22nd of his career. He finished 6-of-12 from the floor, 3-of-3 from the foul line and added four assists and three blocks in 23 minutes of action.
Junior Brett Green went over 1,000 career points on the night with a 3-point basket with 16:40 to play in the second half. He finished with 14 points on 5-of-13 shooting from the field, including a 3-of-7 effort from downtown.
Brian Muller added 14 of his own on a 5-of-9 line from the floor and a 2-of-5 effort from 3-point land whiel fellow redshirt freshman Trevor Ritchie poured in 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field.
CSM will look to capture its second-straight RMAC regular season title tomorrow when they face Adams State at 7:30 p.m. at Lockridge Arena.
