GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines softball team had a tough day at the plate dropping its first game of the RMAC Tournament to Colorado Mesa, 4-0, before Colorado Christian eliminated the Orediggers with a 6-4 victory.
Mines got off to a slow start in their first game and did not collect its first hit until the fourth inning. Colorado Mesa scored three runs in the second and added a solo shot by Courtney Maihi in the third inning.
In the fifth, CSM first two batters reached base with singles but the Oredigges failed to drive in a run and finished the game with just four hits.
The Oredigges out-hit Colorado Christian 11 to six in their elimination game but left 11 runners stranded as the CCU jumped out to a early 5-1 lead.
Mines left the bases load in both the second and fifth innings and left two on in the first and the third inning.
Allysia Cisneros stole home in the fourth and Thiebaut's two-RBI single gave Mines a chance making it 6-4. The Orediggers looked poised to make a comeback in the fifth with three straight singles with one out but the next two batters struck out and grounded out to end the inning.
Thiebaut was 2-for-4 with two RBI while Cisneros finished 3-for-4 with a run scored. Morgan Anderson was 2-for-3 and Jones was 2-for-4 in the game.
The Orediggers finish the season 29-24 after claiming their second-consecutive RMAC regular-season title and will return all but three players next season.
