LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Colorado School of Mines softball opened the 2014 campaign with a 9-0, five-inning setback to Cal State San Bernardino Friday at the 5th Annual Desert Stinger Tournament at Majestic Park in Las Vegas, Nev.

Coming off a doubleheader sweep of NFCA preseason No. 13 Saint Martin's in its season-opener Sunday, CSUSB (3-0) plated runs in all five innings, including leadoff homers in the first and second innings to improve to 2-0 all-time against the Orediggers.

Cassandra Williams limited Mines (0-1) to only two hits – a bunt single by senior Morgan Anderson in the third and base knock to center by junior Cassie Ford in the fourth – in 4.0 innings, striking out five.

Making her first collegiate start in the circle, sophomore Kristen Prudhomme was dealt the loss, allowing three earned runs on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts in 3.0 innings.
