Men finish third, women sixth at 2012 RMAC Swimming & Diving Championships

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Colorado School of Mines swimming & diving teams recorded 19 new school records as the men placed third and the women finished sixth at the 2012 RMAC Swimming & Diving Championships hosted by Incarnate Word over four days at the Aquatic Center at Palo Alto College.

The women broke 13 school records: 200 IM, 200 medley relay, 1,000 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay, 200 freestyle, 400 IM, 800 freestyle felay, 200 backstroke, 1650 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 400 freestyle relay and 400 medley relay.

On the men's side, five school records fell coming in the 200 medley relay, 200 IM, 400 medley relay, 400 IM, 200 freestyle relay.

Sarah Moore was named both the RMAC Women's Diver of the Year and Meet. Moore finished runner-up on the 3-meter board missing out on a sweep by .10 points. Moore scored 407.55 points while the winner in the event tallied 407.65. Moore went on to win the 1-meter board in convincing fashion scoring 446.35 points in finals which was more than 20 points better than the second-place finisher.

No swimmers recorded NCAA "A" cuts but there were many "B" cuts over the four-day meet.

Cayla Wood swam "B" cuts in the 200 IM (2:09.13), 400 IM (4:35.82, 4th) and the 200 breaststroke finishing third with a time of 2:23.11.

Monica Mick had "B" cuts in the 100 backstroke (58.36) and finished fifth in the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:07.07.

The women's relays were strong as school records were broken in every relay. Wood, Tasha Pfeiffer, Michaela McNiff and Rainey Perkins helped the CSM women to their highest finish in the relays as they placed fourth in the 800 freestyle relay (7:57.13).

An All-American in the backstroke, Andrew Zerwick had a "B" cut time in the 100 backstroke (51.54), placed fourth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:42.33 and the 200 backstroke (1:49.49).

Daniel Peter had multiple "B" cut times as they came in the 200 IM (1:52.37), 400 IM (4:00.09) and 200 breaststroke (2:05.53).

Matt Bisping had "B" cuts in the 50 freestyle (21.20), 200 breaststroke (2:04.25) and the 100 breaststroke (56.13) in which he placed fourth.

Zack Gertig finished with "B" cuts in the 100 freestyle (46.83) and 200 freestyle (1:41.92).

Kyle Burt swam a "B" cut time of 4:36.34 in the final of the 500 freestyle to finish fourth. Jacob Best recorded a "B" cut time in the 100 backstroke (51.66) and Zach Nahman did so in the 200 backstroke (1:53.47).

The men also had one relay with a "B" cut time. The 400 medley relay comprised of Zerwick, Bisping, Peter and Gertig placed third with a time of 3:23.58.

Those who qualify will compete at the NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships which begin on March 14th and run through March 17th in Mansfield, Texas.
