Fogle Leads Mines To 76-71 Victory

DENVER – Senior Stephanie Fogle dropped in a team-high 21 points to lead the Colorado Mines women's basketball team to a 76-71 victory over Regis on Saturday evening at the Regis Fieldhouse in Denver.

The Orediggers (8-14, 7-9 RMAC) captured the win behind a big 44-point second half that saw the team shoot 52.4 percent from the floor (11-of-28), 54.5 percent from 3-point range (6-of-11) and 76.2 percent from the foul line (16-of-21).

Mines took an early lead in a very competitive first half, going up 8-2 just 1:47 into the game on an old fashioned 3-point basket by Fogle. A 6-0 run by Regis through the next three minutes brought the two teams even at 8-8.

CSM then reclaimed the lead on a 3-pointer by sophomore Courtney Gallo but Regis continued to fight, eventually retying the game at 19-19 with 8:10 remaining.

The Rangers then claimed their first lead of the ballgame on a 3-pointer by Tae'lor Purdy with 7:30 remaining – a lead they would not relinquish the remainder of the first half in heading to the break with a 36-32 lead.

Mines would battle its way back to start the second half and took its first lead of the second stanza on a 3-pointer by Fogle to go up 44-42 with 14:39 to play. CSM would continue to hold the lead until a layup by Purdy with 7:29 remaining tied up the game at 53-53.

A layup by Taylor Helbig on the next possession gave CSM the lead back at 55-53, and CSM continued to increase its lead to as much as eight points over the next four minutes.

A 3-pointer by Brandi Collins with 38 seconds remaining would trim the Mines' lead to three points at 73-70, but that would be as close as the Rangers would get the rest of the way.

Fogle recorded her 21 points on 5-of-13 shooting from the floor, including an 8-of-9 effort from the foul line.

Angie Charchalis posted 16 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field with matching 4-of-6 lines from both the foul line and 3-point range. The redshirt junior also added a team-high eight rebounds and led the team with three assists.

Allie Grazulis and Helbig posted 11 and 10 points, respectively, to close out the four Orediggers in double figures.

CSM will next be in action on Monday when they travel to face No. 3 Metro State at 5 p.m. in Denver.
