RMAC Shootout Brackets Released
COLORADO SPRINGS – The Colorado School of Mines women's basketball team will be the fifth seed while the men's squad will be the top seed in their respective RMAC Shootouts, and both will face Western State in first round matchups, the conference office announced with the release of the tournament brackets on Saturday evening.
The women's team won six of its last eight ballgames, including an upset of No. 10 Fort Lewis on Feb. 17, to secure its highest seed since earning the second seed in the 2010 RMAC Shootout. Head coach Paula Krueger's team earned a hard-fought 73-71 victory over UC-Colorado Springs on Saturday, and will travel to Gunnison to face the fourth-seeded Mountaineers at 7 p.m. at Plachy Hall.
Western State earned an 83-75 victory on Jan. 21 in the first matchup between the two teams. The Orediggers, 5-8 in the RMAC at the time, got a career-high 22 points from freshman Taylor Helbig, as well as a 21-point night from Angie Charchalis in the WSC victory.
The men's team will play host in a first round RMAC Shootout matchup for the second time in as many seasons after closing out the regular season with an 88-54 victory over UC-Colorado Springs on Saturday evening. Head coach Pryor Orser's squad, ranked No. 3 in the country and No. 1 in the Central Region, earned a 69-63 victory over the Mountaineers on Jan. 21 in Golden. It was the third victory for CSM in its current 12-game winning streak.
Tickets for Tuesday's men's basketball home game will be $10 for adults and $5 for students. All current Mines students with valid BlasterCards will have their admission paid for by the Colorado School of Mines.
